Newark Mayor Announces the Passing of Firefighter Rafael Padilla

Newark Mayor Ras J. Baraka and Public Safety Director Fritz G. Fragé announce with deepest regret the passing of Newark Firefighter Rafael Padilla, 46, who passed away suddenly on Friday, December 8, 2023.Ad “We extend our deepest condolences and heartfelt prayers to the family, friends, and colleagues of Firefighter Rafael Padilla, a dedicated firefighter who bravely served the City of Newark for 15 years,” said Mayor Baraka.

“He was a role model, exemplar, and inspiration to not only his colleagues but our entire city. All of Newark mourns his loss and is eternally grateful for his commitment to our protection.”

“The entire Newark Department of Public Safety mourns the loss of our dear Firefighter Rafael Padilla,” Newark Public Safety Director Fritz Fragé said.

“We especially offer our fervent prayers for his beloved wife and three sons, along with each member of the Newark Fire Division, as we all grapple with this devasting loss.”Ad Officials said firefighter Rafael Padilla joined the Newark Fire Division on April 8, 2008.

His last assignment was at Engine 27, located at 87-89 Elm Road in Newark, where he was a highly respected, dedicated, and distinguished Firefighter, officials stated.

We honor Firefighter Padilla for his devoted service to the City of Newark. May he forever Rest in Peace.
