An Essex County jury has convicted a Newark man in connection with a 2023 crash that led to the death of an elderly pedestrian, according to a statement released by Prosecutor Theodore N. Stephens II.

Andre Snowden-Stegall, 23, was found guilty of third-degree endangering an injured victim and fourth-degree assault by auto following a two-day trial that concluded on April 2, 2026.
Authorities said the conviction stems from an incident on November 20, 2023, when Snowden-Stegall was driving on Bergen Street and turned left onto Avon Avenue, striking 73-year-old Roger Williams as he crossed in a marked crosswalk.
Williams, who was using a walker at the time, was thrown onto the hood of the vehicle and then onto the sidewalk.
He later died from his injuries four months after the crash.
