Newark Man Convicted for Aggravated Assault

Authorities in Essex County announced that a jury has convicted a Newark man in the 2024 brutal assault of a man in his own apartment in Newark.

Prosecutor Theodore N. Stephens II stated that Assistant Prosecutor Bryashia Atchison and Assistant Prosecutor Brian Pollock tried the case before the Honorable Judge Lori Grifa.

The prosecution proved that 32-year-old Gabriel Perez and 38-year-old Bruno Caetano of Newark were let into the 28-year-old victim’s apartment on New Jersey Railroad Avenue by his roommate, after which the two men attacked him, ECPO officials said.

According to Essex County officials, Perez was convicted of second-degree conspiracy to commit aggravated assault, second-degree aggravated assault, and third-degree eluding.

Caetano pleaded guilty to a charge of second-degree aggravated assault, Essex County authorities said. 

Essex County officials said that he was sentenced to five years in New Jersey State Prison pursuant to the No Early Release Act, which requires a person to serve 85% of their sentence.
