Authorities have charged a Newark man in connection with the death of a woman whose body was discovered earlier this month near the Cedar Hill Golf Course in Livingston.

According to Essex County Prosecutor Theodore N. Stephens II and Livingston Police Chief Gary Marshuetz, 35-year-old Andres Calvachi-Paz admitted to investigators that he strangled his girlfriend, Dayana Chisaguano Maleza, 28, inside their Newark apartment on October 7, 2025.

Officials said the fatal assault followed an argument in which the victim expressed her intention to end the relationship.
Afterward, Calvachi-Paz allegedly placed her body in his vehicle, drove around for several hours, and later left her along Walnut Street in Livingston.

Investigators also allege that Calvachi-Paz carried out a scheme to make it appear as though Chisaguano Maleza was still alive, including sending text messages from her phone.
