Newark Man Arrested for Eluding

Police arrested Michael Person, 36, of Newark, for eluding last night.

According to police, at approximately 11 p.m., members of the Newark Police Special Enforcement Bureau were canvassing the area of Clinton Place and Tillinghast Street when they observed two vehicles, a white Dodge Ram pick-up truck and a dark colored Pontiac, traveling close together at a high rate of speed.

Both vehicles turned onto Tillinghast Street and S.E.B. detectives heard gunshots coming from their immediate area police said.

Detectives attempted to conduct a motor vehicle stop of the pick-up truck, but the driver ignored police commands to pull over.

Police said his vehicle became disabled due to a mechanical malfunction in the area of Nye Avenue and Demarest Street and the driver, Michael Person, was placed under arrest without further incident.

Person is charged with Eluding.

This charge is merely an accusation.

The suspect is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
