Newark Man Arrested in Bayonne on Aggravated Assault Charges

A Newark man was arrested in Bayonne over the weekend and charged with aggravated assaulted after he reportedly punched a man and then tried to stab him in the face.

According to authorities, 22-year-old Jose J. Bonamo allegedly started an argument with the 30-year-old victim outside a Lord Avenue apartment shortly before 11 a.m. Saturday that quickly escalated.

Officials say Bonano reportedly punched the victim in his face and then pulled out a knife in attempts of stabbing the victim.

Police ultimately arrested Bonano in the area of West First Street and Kelly Parkway.

Authorities charged Bonano with aggravated assault, unlawful possession of a weapon and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose.
