Newark Man Arrested After Police Find Stolen Loaded Gun

Authorities announced the arrest of Dahki R. Oliver, 19, of Newark, for possession of a loaded handgun in an incident that occurred yesterday.

According to a statement released to the public, at approximately 8:20 p.m., police patrolling the area of Columbia Avenue and Grove Terrace observed a man with what appeared to be a handgun following a ShotSpotter notification issued at 7:45 p.m.

Officials say once the man became aware of officers’ presence, he attempted to walk away from police, but ultimately stopped and was found in possession of a loaded .380 caliber handgun. The weapon was reported stolen out of Alamance County, North Carolina.

Police arrested and charged Oliver with Unlawful Possession of a Weapon, Possession of Prohibited Weapons (hollow point ammunition) and Receiving Stolen Property.

These charges are merely accusations. This suspect is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
