Newark Man Accused of Sexually Assaulting Girl in Hackensack, Surrenders

Acting Bergen County Prosecutor Gurbir S. Grewal announced the arrest of 48-year-old Javier Montecinos, of Newark, on charges of aggravated sexual assault, sexual assault and endangering the welfare of a child.

On Friday, July 13, the Hackensack Police Department was contacted by the Division of Child Protection and Permanency and advised that a juvenile female disclosed that she was touched inappropriately by Montecinos. The Hackensack Police Department notified the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit and a joint investigation ensued.

As a result of interviews and the investigation, Montecinos was charged with one (1) count of aggravated sexual assault, 2C:14-2A(1), a 1st degree crime, one (1) count of sexual assault by contact, 2C:14-2b, a 2nd degree crime and one (1) count of endangering the welfare of a child, 2C:24-4a, a 2nd degree crime.

Initial attempts to locate Montecinos were unsuccessful.

On Tuesday, August 2nd, Montecinos surrendered himself to the Hackensack Police Department.

The Honorable Susan J. Steele, P.J.Cr. set bail at $150,000.00 with no ten percent option.

As conditions of bail, Montecinos is to have no contact with the victim and must surrender his passport.

He was remanded to the Bergen County Jail in lieu of bail and is scheduled to appear in Bergen County Central Judicial Processing Court for a first appearance on August 15th.
