Newark Man Accused of Assaulting 6-Year-Old Child

Passaic County officials announced the arrest of Mr. Tahmir Norris, 29, from Newark. 

Officials said  Mr. Norris was arrested on May 20th,  after an investigation conducted by the Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit.

Officials said on May 6, the Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit received a phone call from Saint Mary’s Hospital in Passaic on a report of a six-year-old child being sexually abused.

Thereafter, Prosecutor’s Office Detectives interviewed the six-year-old victim and multiple witnesses. The victim reported being sexually abused by Mr. Norris on two occasions at residences in Paterson and Passaic between March and May of 2021 while a four-year-old child was present in the room.

According to officials, the investigation further revealed that Mr. Norris sexually abused the four-year-old child on another occasion at a residence in Passaic official said. 

Mr. Norris is charged with three counts of first-degree Aggravated Sexual Assault, three counts of second-degree Sexual Assault, and six counts of second-degree Endangering the Welfare of a Child.

If convicted, Mr. Norris is subject to Parole Supervision for Life and Megan’s Law registration requirements.

Mr. Norris is presently detained at the Passaic County Jail. The Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office will file a motion for the pretrial detention of the defendant which will be heard before a Superior Court Judge.    A criminal complaint is merely an accusation against Mr. Norris. He is considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
