Newark Juvenile Detained for Gun Possession in Front of Weequahic High School

Police in Newark apprehended a juvenile who was in possession of a handgun in front of Weequahic High School in the city's South Ward.Ad The incident occurred at approximately 2:35 p.m. in front of the school on Chancellor Avenue.

Authorities were alerted to the presence of an individual with a gun in the vicinity of the high school.

Responding promptly, officers conducted a thorough search of the area. Their efforts led to the discovery of a teenage boy, reportedly a student of Weequahic High School, carrying a handgun in his jacket pocket. 

The circumstances under which the teenager came into possession of the firearm are still unclear.

Additionally, it has not been confirmed whether the gun was brought inside the school building at any point. This aspect remains a critical part of the ongoing investigation.

In response to the situation, law enforcement officials swiftly removed the teen from the scene, ensuring the safety of students and staff.

The area around the high school was secured as the Newark Police Department commenced an active investigation into the incident.AdAs of now, the motives behind the juvenile's possession of the gun are unknown. The Newark Police Department has not released further details regarding the teenager's intentions or how he acquired the firearm.
