Newark, Irvington Stores Among Eight That May be Banned From Selling Cigarettes

Federal officials announced today that two Essex County businesses are among eight in the country that may be banned from selling tobacco products for 30 days after allegedly selling cigarettes to minors on numerous occasions.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration announced that it has filed complaints to initiate a "No Sale Tobacco Order" against eight retailers in country, including a Newark and Irvington stores.

A 30-day stop orders can be requested against businesses that have violated tobacco sale restrictions, including cigarette sales to minors, five or more times in the last 36 months, according to the FDA.

The complaints were filed against I and S Grocery in Newark, and C and C Supermarket in Irvington.

According to the FDA, the stores have 30 days to respond to the complaints.
