For 17-year-old Newark Barringer High School senior Miguel Garro, he never thought of the possibility of attending his senior prom simply because he would never leave his mother with the financial burden of having to pay for the single night's event that could rack up more than a thousand dollars in expense.
So during the fall, while seniors at Barringer High School arrived from summer break, they cheerfully spoke about their plans of purchasing tuxedos, dresses, hair preparation, and limousines but Garro had his mind made up that he would nix the idea of spending the final days enjoying his time with his classmates at the prom.
According to published reports, for boys and girls around New Jersey and the nation, prom preparation usually means looking for the perfect dress, the right fitting tuxedo, finding jewelry that sparkles and a pair of shoes that will allow them to dance throughout the night. The gear's cost could range to about $1500 on the very low end to $5500 on the higher end.
Even the low-end expense, the cost of the prom could drain family resources reports said. Most households leaders prepare for the event saying, "it is well worth the once in a lifetime experience that their children will have, but not everyone can afford it".
While attending a family barbecue, Garro was approached by an RLS Media content producer and Metro Media Summer Camp Manager who asked him what was his plans for the senior prom and Garro simply answered: "I'm not going."
After the RLS Producer negotiated, Garro agreed that if he were offered assistance, "I would definitely attend the prom but I am making it clear that he did not want his mom to go through the hardship for a single nights event." "I think that mom would do it, but I don't think it's fair that she does."
An early Monday morning trip to the manager's office by the RLS producer to request that the company assist Garro had our staff on the phone with Hugo from Santos Tuxedos who has chosen to dress some students to attend their proms for several years.
Hugo designed the perfect fitting tuxedo for Garro, then had him out the door for Wednesday night's prom. Our staff attempted to reach several of limo companies during the week, but none we contacted agreed to assist, so the Chief Web Engineer here at RLS Media (rlsmedia.com) played chauffeur to Garro for the evening where Barringer's eloquent toast-off was underway at the school.
RLS Media Chief Executive Officer would like to -again- thank Hugo and the excellent staff for stepping in to assist our community and children who may experience hardships. "It is essential that we embrace and support businesses that support our NJ communities. Hugo at Santos has stepped up to the plate to make Garro feel the importance of being raised in a village.
