Newark Home Health Aid Charged with Sexual Assault at Harrison Group Home

According to a statement released by Hudson County officials, on Friday, December 13, members of the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit arrested a Newark man following an investigation into allegations that he committed sexual assault at a group home in Harrison.

Officials say, Mr. Jerome Brewer, 48, was arrested without incident at approximately 1:40 p.m. at the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office in Jersey City.

Regarding the first victim, Brewer has been charged with Aggravated Sexual Assault upon an incapacitated victim in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:14-2a(7), a first-degree crime.

Authorities say, Brewer also faces charges involving a second victim. He has been charged with Aggravated Criminal Sexual Contact upon an incapacitated victim in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:14-3a, a third-degree crime; and Lewdness in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:14-4b(2), a fourth-degree crime.

Authorities say Brewer was employed as a home aide and was working in the group home at the time of the alleged criminal activity, which occurred on November 24, 2019.

Brewer was transported to the Hudson County Correctional Facility in Kearny, pending his first appearance. The Prosecutor’s Office has filed a motion for pretrial detention of the defendant. A hearing is scheduled for Wednesday, December 18th.
