Newark Firefighters Respond to Fire in Vacant South Ward House

Newark Firefighters extinguished a fast-moving fire that ignited inside a vacant home in the city's South Ward during the overnight hours.

According to police, firefighters were called to 265 Schley Street to investigate reports of a fire at approximately 3 a.m.

Crews arrived at the scene and found flames coming from the second floor of a two and a half story wood-framed house according to reports.

Firefighters were able to swiftly extinguish the fire in under a half-hour with one person was reportedly rescued from the burning structure. The victim suffered non-life threatening injuries.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
