Newark Firefighters Extinguish House Fire on South 9th Street

Firefighters in Newark made fast work out of a fire that ignited inside a house in the city's West Ward Friday night.

According to officials, the fast-moving fire erupted inside a vacant house located on South 9th Street and 13th Avenue around 11 p.m.

Crews arrived and found smoke coming from the rear of a three-story wood-framed structure.

Firefighters were able to make entry into the house where they found the seat of the blaze then began to extinguish. After a search of the home, there were no reports of trapped or injured occupants.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
