Newark Firefighters Extinguish Fires Inside Vacant House

Newark firefighters made fast work out of a fire that ignited inside a vacant structure at a location in the city on Thursday morning.

According to preliminary reports, crews responded to 911 calls reporting a fire inside a house located in the 800 block of South 19th Street at around 2:45 a.m.

When firefighters arrived, they found fire inside the single-story house that they immediately declared vacant.

Crews stretched several lines inside the house and were able to locate the seat of the fire, according to officials.

Fire officials placed the fire under control in under a half-hour.

Officials believe squatters are to blame for the fire and there were no serious injuries reported.
