Newark Firefighters Battle Raging House Fire in the South Ward

Newark

Firefighters in Newark are on the scene battling a fire that's ripping through a house in a section of the city's South Ward at this time.

Crews rushed to 165 Johnson Avenue, just at West Runyon Street, after receiving reports of a fire with possible trapped occupants around 2:45 p.m.

When firefighters arrived at the scene, they found heavy flames coming from the roof of a two-and-a-half-story wood-framed house with fire beginning to extend to neighboring homes.

Newark Firefighters stretched multiple lines and entered the burning building but was immediately forced back by thick and billowing smoke inside the structure.

This caused crews to resort to a defensive attack of the fire.

As of 3:31 p.m., no injuries were reported, and the cause of the fire is under investigation.
