Newark Firefighter Injured in North 6th Street House Fire

Newark

A firefighter was transported to the hospital suffering non-life threatening burns after fighting a fire that damaged two homes at a location in Newark Thursday night.

According to preliminary reports, heavy fire broke out in two large two and a half story homes located in the 200 block of North 6th Street just before 9:25 p.m.

When crews arrived at the scene, they found flames showing in-between two homes at that location.

Officials say fire extended into the basement and up to the upper floors then swiftly spread to the cockloft of 215 North 6th Street, forcing crews to perform an aggressive interior attack in both structures.

Firefighters were able to bring the blaze under control in about an hour with no injuries to residents.

The American Red Cross arrived at the scene to assist in relocating several occupants of the homes.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
