Newark Fire Officials Investigate Fire That Ignited Inside House Twice During the Overnight

Fire officials in Newark are investgiating a fire that ignited inside a house two times during the overnight hours at a location in the city.

According to officials, firefighters first responded to173 16th Avenue shortly before 11:15 p.m. where they arrived and found a fire in a first-floor stairwell that extending up to the second then the third floor of the three-story occupied structure.

Crews were able to knock down the fast-moving fire with no severe injuries reported.

Newark Firefighters were called back to the location just before 4:55 a.m. after residents reported fire coming from the structure.

Crews arrived to find heavy fire tearing through all floors of the house according to fire officials.

Firefighters conducted an exterior attack where they knocked down flames in about 30 minutes with a search for the structure of the structure for trapped and injured occupants coming back negative.

Newark officials say 21 people were displaced because of the blaze.

The fire remains under investigation.
