Newark Emergency Responders Search the Passaic River for Possible Victims

Emergency responders in Newark conducted an exterior search of the Passaic River near the Jackson Street Bridge after there were reports of a person that possibly went into the waters.

According to preliminary reports, crews from University Hospital Rescue, EMS, Newark Firefighters and Newark Police scrambled to the Raymond Boulevard side of the, just past the bridge, after reports suggested that the unidentified person may have gone into the water sometime before 4:10 a.m.

Crews visually searched the grassy area around the river, then checked the water but as of 5 a.m. divers or a boat did not arrive to assist in the operation.

Newark Police officials have not confirmed details or accounts of the search at this time.

Emergency responders stayed at the scene to continue to the search after 5:30 a.m.

**UPDATED 6:10am** The male in question has been located safely and received medical attention. He did not enter the water according to police.
