Police in Newark's East Ward are on the search for a suspect wanted for a violent attack of a person overnight.
According to preliminary reports, the incident happened in the vicinity of Oliver and Pacific streets just before two a.m. to investigate.
Units arriving at the scene found the victim who reported being attacked by an unidentified male who was armed with a gun.
The suspect reportedly began to pistol whip the victim before running from the scene according to reports.
Authorities only described the suspect as a 5'9" black male who wore dark clothing.
EMS responded to the scene for non-life threatening injuries.
There were no arrests made.
