Newark Carjacking, Kidnapping Suspect Arrested

Authorities in Newark announced the arrest of **Warren Carswell, 38, of Newark,** who they say was wanted for a carjacking and kidnapping incident that occurred on Saturday, May 13.

According to police, at approximately 4:30 p.m., officers responded to Court and Washington streets on a call of a carjacking.

Upon arrival, officers met the female victim who told them her white Hyundai Elantra was taken by an unarmed male suspect who drove away with her vehicle.

Police said the victim suffered no injuries during the encounter.

Detectives developed evidence that identified Warren Carswell as the suspect in this carjacking and kidnapping and obtained a warrant for his arrest.

Police found Carswell inside the carjacked vehicle on South 13th Street according to authorities.

They are charging him with aggravated assault, carjacking, and kidnapping authorities said.

These charges are merely accusations.

Carswell is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
