Newark Attempted Carjacking has man Struck in the Head

Police in Newark are on the search for a suspect who is wanted for a violent attempted carjacking that left a man injured in the city Monday morning.

Newark Police officer reported to criminal activity that occurred in the 200 block of Camden Street at approximately 2 a.m. where they arrived and found an injured man at that location.

The victim reported to police that at least one male carjacker approached and attempted to take his car before beating him the head with an object.

According to the victim, during the attack, a loud bang resembling shots fired was heard.

Police searched the area for shell casings, but there were no reports that officers found any shell casings.

EMS treated the man for non-life threatening injuries. The suspect remains at-large.
