Newark Arson Squad Investigates South Ward Building Fire

According to Newark Fire officials, at approximately 7:41 p.m., Wednesday, September 7, Newark Firefighters extinguished a fire at 31 Van Vechten Street.

Firefighters extricated two male victims, who were both treated at the scene with oxygen before being transported to Newark Beth Israel Medical Center.

Officials said both victims are reportedly in stable condition. No other injuries have been reported.

The fire was considered under control at 7:51 p.m., with the cause and origin of the blaze under investigation by the Newark Department of Public Safety’s Arson Unit.
