Armed Robbery Suspects Committed Multiple Incidents in Newark, East Orange; Shots Fired

Essex County authorities are on the search for suspects who drove around Newark and East Orange committing armed robberies.

East Orange officials have not returned calls for public information, but according to Newark officials, police are continuing to investigate and search for at least one suspects who they considered armed occupied a white Mercedes Benz during the incident.

According to preliminary reports, at approximately 7:30 p.m., suspects wearing masks arrived in the area of 425 15th Avenue and fired nearly a half-dozen rounds before speeding away from the scene. Police searched the area but did not find any victims reports said.

At approximately 9:10 p.m., suspects fitting the same description jumped out of the Mercedes with weapons drawn and committed a robbery on 2nd Avenue. The suspects took several items before speeding from the scene westbound on 2nd Avenue according to reports.

Two residents in East Orange reported being robbed by masked men who brandished a weapon and took personal possessions. The victims say the suspects fled the scene in a white vehicle.

Newark Police located the occupied vehicle in the vicinity of South Orange Avenue, and South 12th street but lost sight of the car after the driver recklessly sped away.

The suspected vehicle was later recovered just before 10:15 p.m. in the 100 block of Hobson Street where police detained one person for questioning.

There were no reports of physical injuries for any of the victims.
