As the world mourns the passing of Pope Francis, the Archdiocese of Newark is inviting the faithful to gather in prayer during a special Mass for the repose of his soul.

According to information released by the Newark Archdiocese, Cardinal Joseph W. Tobin will celebrate the solemn liturgy on today, Tuesday, April 22, at 7:30 p.m. at the Cathedral Basilica of the Sacred Heart in Newark.

The Mass will also be livestreamed through the Cathedral Basilica’s and Archdiocese’s social media platforms to allow wider participation.

The Cathedral Basilica, a majestic and revered landmark in Newark’s North Ward that I drive by daily, will serve as a fitting setting for the memorial.

Its presence is a constant reminder of the city’s rich spiritual heritage and will offer a solemn and beautiful space for the community to honor the life and legacy of Pope Francis.

Its stunning Gothic architecture and spiritual grandeur have made it a beacon for Catholics throughout the state and beyond.

The death of Pope Francis has drawn an emotional response from many across New Jersey, where residents have remembered his legacy of humility, compassion, and unwavering faith.

Tributes and prayers have poured in, reflecting his lasting impact on communities of all backgrounds.

The upcoming Mass offers New Jerseyans an opportunity to honor the life and spiritual leadership of Pope Francis, uniting in reverence and reflection during this time of global mourning.
