Saddle Brook

Saddle Brook Police announce the arrest of Marlon Vancooten, 25, of Brooklyn, NY.

At 4:30 a.m. Saturday, police observed a black Nissan Altima vehicle a red light traffic signal at Outwater Lane and Westminister Place.

The sergeant pulled the car over a short distance from Outwater Lane at Main Street in Lodi.

Upon exiting his patrol car and approaching the stopped car, the operator then sped away traveling north bound on Main Street towards Rochelle Park. Cadigan then pursued the car through Rochelle Park and into Paramus.

At the intersection of Farview Ave and Spring Valley Road the Nissan lost control and crashed into a home.

The driver, later identified as Marlon Vancooten, tried to flee on foot but officers gave chase and apprehended him after a brief pursuit.

After the vehicle crashed into the home, fire and smoke could be seen coming from the engine. The Paramus Fire Department responded, extinguished and contain the blaze.

Vancooten was charged with several motor vehicle violations and eluding police likely to cause substantial risk of injury and/or damage. He was remanded to the Bergen County Jail on $50,000.

A female acquaintance of Vancooten was also taken into custody but later released pending further investigation.

The investigation is ongoing due to the reason we believe that there may be use of a fraudulent credit card to purchase various items of merchandise including numerous gift cards found in Vancooten's possession.
