New Jersey Woman Fatally Struck by Vehicle Operated by Elderly Woman

Egg Harbor Township Police officials are investgiating a crash that killed a woman on Wednesday night.

According to preliminary reports, the incident happened at approximately 9:29 p.m., where the Egg Harbor Township Police Department responded to the area of the Black Horse Pike, just east of English Creek Avenue, in the Cardiff section of the township, for a fatal pedestrian motor vehicle crash.

Police say a 2017 Hyundai Sonata, operated by Ms. Mary Beal, 82, from Egg Harbor Township, was traveling westbound on Black Horse Pike when it encountered a pedestrian, identified as Ms. Yoriana Alonso-Guzman, 35, Atlantic City, in the roadway.

According to police Ms. Beal's vehicle impacted Mrs. Alonso-Guzman, and as a result of the impact, she sustained fatal injuries.

Police say the westbound lanes of the Black Horse Pike between Ivins Avenue and English Creek Avenue were shut down for approximately three hours while the crash scene was being investigated and cleared.

The Cardiff Volunteer Fire Company and NJ State Department of Transportation assisted Egg Harbor Township Officers at the scene.

The crash investigation is ongoing and being conducted by Sergeant Larry Graham, Officers Patrick Daly, Robert Moran and Louis Poletis of the Traffic Safety Unit and members of the Atlantic County Prosecutors Office.
