According to Attorney General Matthew J. Platkin and the Division of Consumer Affairs (DCA), the lawsuit—originally filed by the Federal Trade Commission in April 2025, claims Uber misled consumers about savings tied to Uber One while making the service extremely difficult to cancel once enrolled.

The complaint alleges subscribers were forced through lengthy and confusing cancellation processes, sometimes navigating more than 20 screens and dozens of steps, often resulting in additional charges while waiting for customer service assistance.

The lawsuit also accuses Uber of improper “negative option” marketing practices related to free trials and unauthorized charges.

State officials say the action seeks restitution for consumers, civil penalties, and an injunction against Uber for alleged violations of New Jersey’s Consumer Fraud Act and federal consumer protection laws.
