New Elizabeth Police Chief Sworn In

Earlier this afternoon, city and police officials gathered at city hall, to attend a ceremony where Deputy Police Chief John F. Brennan was promoted to replace former Chief Patrick Shannon, who retired after more than 38 years on the force. 

The city hired Chief Brennan as a police officer on September 9, 1983.

They promoted him to the rank of Sergeant on September 2, 1991; then to Lieutenant on June 28, 1999 and Captain on February 21, 2005.

Finally, he achieved the rank of Deputy Police Chief on May 9, 2012.

He previously served in the U.S. Marine Corps from June 1976 to June 1979, achieving the rank of Corporal.

Chief Brennan also served in the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve from July 1979 to December 1981.

The City of Elizabeth is the fourth largest municipality in the State of New Jersey with a population of approximately 125,000 residents.

With its close proximity to the entire tri-state area, the Elizabeth Police Department responds to an array of calls, incidents, and emergency issues.
