New Brunswick Residential House Fire Results in One Death

Police in New Brunswick are investigating a fatal fire that occurred in the city on Saturday night.

According to police, on March 13, at approximately 6:00 p.m., New Brunswick firefighters responded to a residential fire at 263 Delevan Street. 

Police said that a resident of that address, identified as Thomas Sims, 61, was found deceased by firefighters in the basement. The preliminary investigation suggests that Mr. Sims death was a result of the fire.

The cause of the fire was investigated by the New Brunswick Police and Fire Departments along with investigators from the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s and Fire Marshall’s Office. At this time, the cause of the fire appears to be accidental and no foul play is suspected.

Firefighters reported intense flames as they extinguished the fire resulting in the evacuation of an adjacent property. Mutual aid was provided by firefighters from East Brunswick, East Franklin, Edison, Milltown, North Brunswick and Piscataway fire departments.
