New Brunswick Man Charged with Heroin Possession

​FRANKLIN TOWNSHIP, N.J. - Somerset County Prosecutor Michael H. Robertson and Chief of County Detectives John W. Fodor announced the arrest of Marcelino Ortiz, 32, of Harvey Street in New Brunswick.

Prosecutor Robertson stated that on August 29, at approximately 8:15 P.M., the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office Organized Crime and Narcotics Task Force, along with the Franklin Township Police Department Crime Suppression Unit conducted a “quality of life” detail in the area of Hamilton Street in Franklin Township.

As a result of this detail, detectives observed Ortiz on a bicycle in a parking lot on Hamilton Street.

Defendant Ortiz was seen meeting with several individuals and was subsequently approached by Task Force detectives.

Defendant Ortiz was found to have three (3) outstanding warrants for his arrest.

Ortiz was placed under arrest and a subsequent search of his person revealed ten (10) glassine folds of suspected heroin.

Ortiz was charged with 3rd degree Possession of Heroin.

He was processed and issued a summons for the aforementioned possession charge and turned over to Middlesex County Jail for the outstanding arrest warrants.
