New Brunswick Man Charged with Attempted Murder in Connection to Shooting

Middlesex County officials announced today that a New Brunswick man has been charged in connection with the shooting that occurred on July 16.

According to county officials, on July 16, at approximately 2:43 a.m., authorities responded to the area of 142 Remsen Avenue near Los Amigos Bar following the report of a shooting. 

Upon arrival, officers located one female and two males who had each sustained a gunshot wound. The victims were transported to a nearby hospital, where they were treated for their injuries.

Officials said that on Thursday, July 22, an investigation by Detective Keith Walcott of the New Brunswick Police Department and Detective Christopher Pennisi of The Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office led to the arrest of Jhamir Hoagland, 22, of New Brunswick and determined that this was not a random act.

According to county officials, Hoagland has been charged with conspiracy to commit murder, attempted murder and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose.

Hoagland is presently lodged at the Middlesex County Adult Correction Center pending a pre-trial detention hearing in Superior Court.

The investigation is ongoing.
