Multiple Vehicles Damaged, Several Hospitalized in 'Shark' Pursuit in Newark

There were non-life threatening injuries reported for a woman, man and children after a car sped away from a police traffic stop and ended up crashing in Newark's South Ward Thursday evening.

Residents say, several males recklessly drove through several South Ward neighborhood engaged in a game of 'shark' where the driver taunted police to pull them over then accelerate at high rates of speed as officers began their investigation.

According to police, the suspect in the speeding vehicle crashed into three cars -2 occupied- on Maple Avenue at around 6:50 p.m.

Police say a female in a crashed white BMW managed to crawl from the car but was not severely injured.

A child and a man were taken to the hospital and treated for minor injuries when the out of control car slammed into a parked car that they occupied.

Good samaritans chased down then captured one of the males and police arrested at least one of the suspects involved in the incident.

The incident remains under investigation.
