Multiple Rounds of Gunfire Clears Newark East Ward Street

Residents in Newark's East Ward ducked inside their homes for cover after shooters fired multiple rounds in the neighborhood on Monday night.

Reports of shots fired in the vicinity Pennington and Dawson streets around 11:10 p.m had Newark Police units arrive at the scene at approximately 11:40 p.m.

Officers blocked the intersection and found shell casings in the 200 block of South Street, but as they continued their searched the area, no victims were found.

According to residents, shooters arrived in the area and began repeatedly firing at males engaged in illegal drug sales at that location.

Residents said the suspects fired as many as eight shots before fleeing the scene. Several males sought cover inside the apartment building.

The shooting remains under investigation by Newark Police.
