The Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office is leading an investigation into a serious late-night crash that left several people injured and shut down a busy roadway leading to the Lincoln Tunnel.
According to preliminary information, the collision happened around 11:30 p.m. Sunday near the intersection of Tonnelle Avenue and 51st Street.
Emergency crews rushed to the scene after multiple 911 calls reported a major crash.

Responding units arrived to find a devastating scene; two vehicles had reportedly collided head-on, leaving both cars heavily damaged and debris scattered across the roadway.
Four people were injured in the crash, including two victims in life-threatening condition.
Authorities closed all lanes in both directions on 1&9 while police and prosecutors conducted their investigation.
The Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office issued an advisory warning commuters to expect delays during the Monday morning rush.
The cause of the collision remains under active investigation.
