A short pursuit through a Newark East Ward community had authorities make multiple arrests late last night.

Reports of a suspicious vehicle that was occupied by several male suspects (possibly committing robberies in the Ferry Street) sent several police units to the area at around 9:15 p.m. to investigate.

Police spotted the vehicle in the area of Elm Road near Pulaski Street when the vehicle sped off at a high rate of speed. Officers continued to follow the vehicle when the car lost control near the quiet community around the Ann Street School, (Ann Street and Elm Road) crashing into several parked cars.

Several suspects attempted to bail from the vehicle with several police officers nearby.

At least four of the suspects were captured at the scene while officers tracked down one other suspect a short distance away.

It is not immediately known if the suspects were responsible for several reported armed robberies in the area.

EMS was called to the scene but there were no report of life threatening injuries.
