Multiple Armed Robberies has Police Stepping Up Patrols in Newark; Woman Violently Attacked

Newark

Police in Newark have stepped up patrols after receiving multiple reports of armed robberies that occurred throughout the day, around the city.

Residents in the area of Parkview Terrace and Pamona Avenue told RLS Metro that they were stunned to witness a violent attack that turned into a strong armed robbery of a woman earlier this afternoon.

According to residents, at around 2:15 p.m., a woman walking in the area was surprised attacked by at least one masked man who viciously threw her to the ground in an attempt to take her bag while residents looked on and called police.

Residents said, the black male suspect swiftly exited a burgundy early modeled van and begin wrestling with the woman until she fell to the ground while a second suspect pulled the van up to where the incident was occurring and happily cheered the suspect on.

The woman did not suffer serious injury.

Police believe that the suspects were the same crew that committed an armed robbery in the 300 block of Leslie Street a short time before the Parkview Terrace robbery.

The suspects then made their way into the city's West Ward at around 4:15 p.m when they jumped from the van armed with a weapon and demanded personal possessions from a young male who was reportedly walking home from school.

The suspects took a bag and a cell phone before fleeing from the scene in the vehicle.

Shortly before 5:30 p.m., two men fitting the same description as the wanted suspects, committed an armed robbery in the 300 block of South Orange Avenue. The men took personal possessions from the victim.

Authorities are looking for a 2001 burgundy or maroon colored Dodge Caravan that was reportedly stolen out of Belleville with a reported NJ license plate number "M50-FCL" that is occupied by

as many as four black males who were wearing masks during the robberies.

There were no injuries immediately reported in any of the robberies.
