Multi-Alarm Fire Tears Through Passaic Restaurant, Several Stores

Passaic firefighters along with mutual aid from numerous departments across Passaic and Bergen Counties battled a five-alarm fire on Monday night that destroyed multiple businesses.

According to authorities, firefighters were sent to 45 Lexington Avenue shortly after 10:00 p.m. where they found a working fire in a restaurant.

Authorities say flames quickly spread through the cockloft to adjoining stores eventually destroying five and damaging a sixth.

Flames and embers from the burning building threatening others, but firefighters were able to halt much of the spread.

It took crews about four hours to control the blaze, but smoke continued to cover the area until early this morning.

Five firefighters suffered heat-related minor injuries.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
