Firefighters from multiple municipalities responded to a late-night blaze that tore through a multi-family building in Dunellen on Friday evening, forcing residents from their homes.

According to preliminary information, crews were dispatched just before 10 p.m. to the 300 block of Front Street after several 911 callers reported a fire inside the building.
When firefighters arrived, they encountered heavy fire conditions and quickly requested additional help.
Command officers at the scene transmitted a second alarm, followed shortly by a third alarm, after flames were observed ripping through the roof of the structure.
Fire crews stretched several hose lines and began an aggressive defensive operation, working to surround and knock down flames that had spread throughout much of the building.
Officials said all occupants were able to escape safely before conditions worsened.
Despite heavy flames, firefighters continued efforts to access the building and search for any possible trapped or injured occupants while battling the blaze from multiple sides.
After an intense firefighting operation, crews were able to bring the fire under control.
The American Red Cross was called to assist residents who were displaced by the fire with temporary housing and emergency support.
Authorities said the cause of the fire remains under active investigation. No additional information was immediately available.
