Mullica Township

A Mullica Township man was sentenced for the murder of his wife at their home in 2014, Atlantic County First Assistant Prosecutor Cary Shill announced.

Sergio DeRosa was sentenced by Judge John R. Rauh this morning to serve 30 years in a New Jersey state prison and must serve 30 before he is eligible for parole. On July 19th, following a six day trial before Judge Rauh, Sergio DeRosa was found guilty of Murder in the shooting death of his wife, 57-year-old Lynn DeRosa.

“The defendant has spent three years since the crime trying to place blame on other people and taking no responsibility for killing his wife. In that time, the prosecution continued the investigation and did not give up. In July, a jury assigned responsibility to the defendant with a guilty verdict and now Judge Rauh has also assigned responsibility,” said Chief Assistant Prosecutor Seth Levy who prosecuted the case.

According to authorities, on May 26, 2014, at 9:24 a.m., the Mullica Township Police responded to 4901 Pleasant Mills Road for a 9-1-1 report of the shooting death of Lynn DeRosa, 57, of that address.

An autopsy performed on May 27, 2014, by Dr. Marianne Hamel, of the Southern Regional Medical Examiner’s Office, determined the cause of death to be a shotgun wound to the head, and the manner of death: homicide.

An Atlantic County Grand Jury indicted DeRosa on September 27, 2016, on murder, for purposely or knowingly causing the death of his wife, Lynn DeRosa.

DeRosa alleged he accidentally shot his wife while cleaning his gun.
