Mountainside Police High-Speed Pursuit Ends in Crash on Route 22 in Hillside

Authorities in Union County are investigating a police pursuit that caused a crash on a highway in Hillside Tuesday night.

According to a preliminary investigation, the incident happed at approximately 9:15 p.m., where Mountainside Police began chasing a vehicle in the eastbound lanes of Route 22 that refused to pull over.

The investigation revealed that the vehicle was stolen and the driver continued to lead officers on a high-speed pursuit until he lost control of the car near Bloy Street, causing a violent crash at that location.

HIllside firefighters arrived and found a car into a pole with two occupants trapped inside the severely damaged vehicle. Officials said the passenger of the car was injured and required medical attention.

Officials said there were no officers injured in the crash.
