A motorcyclist suffered severe injuries in a crash this afternoon in Newark.
It happened just before 11:30 a.m. near the intersection of Springfield Avenue and South 12th Street.
A preliminary investigation indicated that the car turned onto South 12 from Springfield Avenue when the motorcyclist slammed into the vehicle at a high rate of speed.
The rider was thrown from the bike and transported to University Hospital for treatment, according to police.
Police say the cause of the crash is under investigation.
