Mother, Two Children Critical from Carbon Monoxide Poison While Sitting in Running Vehicle in Passaic

Passaic

Authorities in Passaic are investigating an incident where three people were injured by Carbon Monoxide gas in the city.

According to authorities, police rushed to the 40's block of Sherman Avenue at around 8:15 p.m. after receiving reports of several unconscious people inside a running vehicle.

Rescue crew arrived to the scene where they located a woman and two children unconscious in the vehicle at that location.

EMS rushed the victims (who were later identified as a mother and her two young children) to St. Mary's Hospital where they suffered critical injuries after being exposed to high levels of poisonous Carbon Monoxide gas.

Firefighters noticed that the exhaust pipe of the vehicle was completely blocked by snow when the woman turned on the vehicle in a possible attempt to keep the children warm.

It is not immediately known how long the victims were inside the vehicle.

The Passaic Police Department is investigating.
