Mother, Kids Escape Toms River House Fire Unharmed

A mother and her children escaped their Toms River home unharmed after flames broke out Friday afternoon.

Firefighters were called to 1776 Kathleen Court at approximately 3:04 pm for a report of a house fire.

According to the resident, the fire broke out in the lower portion of her home but she didn't notice until she saw flames coming up her stairs.

All of the residents, including children, fled to safety as police, fire, and EMS units arrived.

Upon arrival, firefighters encountered flames that had already began to burn out of control in the rear of the home, police said.

Fire units from Pleasant Plains, Toms River, Silverton, East Dover, Island Heights, Lakewood, and Manitou Park responded to assist with the blaze.

The cause of the fire remains under investigations.

There were no reports of injuries.
