Authorities in Morristown are investigating a late-night incident that prompted a heavy police response after a report of a barricaded individual with possible hostages was determined to be unfounded.

According to a statement from the Morristown Police Department, officers were dispatched just before 1:10 a.m. to the 30 block of Walker Avenue following a report that a person was barricaded inside a residence and possibly holding hostages.
The initial report also claimed the individual was suffering from a gunshot wound, which heightened concern and led to a significant law enforcement presence.
When officers arrived and conducted a thorough investigation, they found no barricaded person, no hostages, and no evidence of anyone being injured.
Police later determined the call was likely a false or “swatting” type incident.
The situation was cleared at the scene without further incident.
No injuries were reported, and no arrests have been announced. Authorities said no additional information is available at this time as the investigation into the false report continues.
