Montclair Woman Charged with Operating Unlicensed Veterinarian Clinic in Passaic County

Passaic County

Passaic County authorities are reporting the arrest of Ms. Alia Muslih, 39, of Montclair, for running an unlicensed Veterinary clinic at 140 Furler Street in Totowa.

The arrest was made without incident on August 20.

According to authorities, on the same date, a search warrant was executed at the 140 Furler Street by members of the Financial Crimes Unit of the Passaic County Prosecutors Office and the Totowa Police Department with assistance from the Drug Enforcement Agency, the Division of Consumer Affairs, and the Paterson and Clifton Animal Control.

The clinic, named Totowa Animal Hospital, was run out of Seven Star Pet Resort.

Authorities said Muslih, who ran both Totowa Animal Hospital and Seven Star Pet Resort, created and reinforced a false impression that she was a licensed veterinarian.

The New Jersey Board of Veterinary Medicine indicates that Muslih is not a licensed veterinarian and that Totowa Animal Hospital is not a licensed veterinary clinic.

Muslih was charged with Theft by Deception (NJAS 2C:20-4) (second degree); Corporate Misconduct (NJSA 2C:21-9) (second degree); Animal Cruelty (NJSA 4:22-17) (third degree) and Unlicensed Possession of Prescription Drugs (NJSA 35-10.5) (second degree).

A criminal complaint is merely an accusation.

Despite this accusation, the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
