A Millville man was arrested and charged with killing his 9-week-old step-daughter Friday morning, according to police.
Police responded to the 200 block of South 5th Street for a suspicious death of a baby Friday around 6:30 a.m.
Upon paramedics arrival, the baby was unresponsive and was pronounced dead shortly after.
During initial investigation, police believed that the baby may have suffocated while laying with Mikes on an air mattress. However, medical examiners found blunt-force trauma to the back of the baby's head, ruling the baby's death a homicide.
Manuel Mikes, 33, was charged with murder and endangering the welfare of a child.
Mikes is being held in the Cumberland County Jail in lieu of $1 million bail.
He is expected to appear an arraignment at the Cumberland County Courthouse tomorrow morning.
