A Metuchen High School educator who also leads the school’s varsity softball program is facing a theft charge after authorities say she improperly cashed the same district-issued check twice.
According to a criminal complaint, Michelle L. Huff, 36, of Green Brook, was charged with third-degree theft on November 11.
Investigators allege Huff first deposited a paper check from the board of education into a PNC Bank account in February, then submitted a mobile deposit of that same check months later.
Detectives reviewed subpoenaed banking records before filing the charge.
Superintendent Vincent Caputo confirmed Huff has been placed on leave but did not comment further.
Efforts to reach Huff or her attorney on Tuesday were unsuccessful.
State pension records show Huff earned $88,096 as a teacher in 2024.
A board of education agenda indicates she was paid an additional $10,366 for her varsity softball coaching duties in 2025.
