Mercer County Narcotics Task Force Seizes $7.5K in Heroin

The Mercer County Narcotics Task Force concluded a four-month investigation recently with one arrest and the seizure of $7,500 in heroin, Acting Mercer County Prosecutor Angelo J. Onofri reported.

Onofri stated that just before 6 p.m. on Sept. 15th, task force officers spotted the target of the investigation, Raheem Cooper, leave his apartment on Monmouth Street and get into a vehicle.

He was taken into custody, but while handcuffed behind his back and placed against the arrest vehicle, Cooper leaned away and began running down Tyler Street. Officers ran after him and quickly took him back into custody. Search warrants were then executed at the apartment and officers located approximately 15 bricks of heroin with an estimated street value of $7,500.

A search of Cooper’s person revealed $1,001 in cash and approximately five grams of marijuana. Cooper’s 2007 Mercedes Benz S-550 was seized as drug proceeds.

Cooper, 34, is charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance, possession with the intent to distribute, possession with the intent to distribute within 1,000 feet of a school, possession with the intent to distribute within 500 feet of a public facility, possession of marijuana under 50 grams, resisting arrest and escape. He is free on $150,000 bail.

1,000
